Perú New Year

Main attraction at my 2014 new years party? Watching mama pig give birth to 8 little piglets.

We were in a back room that also doubled as chicken coop, bike work shop, laundry room, and- at least for tonight- pig delivery room. Oh yeah, there was also wine brewing under the shelf and some turkeys. All this was a few blocks from downtown. The set up would make even the most enterprising homesteader back home jealous. I was lucky enough to spend my new years here. The traditions in Perú also include burning manikins  eating grapes, and- at least for us- taking funny photos with sparklers.
